I knew the day would come eventually - today the trusty fountain gave out. I plugged it in and it groaned and wouldn't start. I can't really complain because it was inexpensive and lasted about 5 years. I feel bad because the birds loved that fountain more than any other thing I've ever put out in the yard. I would be going away for the winter soon so I have a few months to try to find some kind of replacement. The poor blue jays kept going and sitting in it then would fly off (there is also ground baths with water so they have elsewhere).

I'm going to try home depot this week. I originally bought this one on clearance after the summer there. It may be a bit late for summer clearance but I'm going to check around. I wish I could get that exact one. The top bowl was like the VIP (or VIB!) lounge, they'd line up for it.

Does it work in the Winter, in snow and cold winds, does the water freeze? Always interested in birding products that the birds like. Is it very heavy and is it easy to keep clean?
Thank you in advance,

Most of my photos only show the top bowls because those 2 are the popular ones. Its 4 in total with the bottom being the only one that's a bit deep. Its about 5-6 years old (I don't think they make it anymore). Its made of resin/plastic. Its not too heavy. I empty it and cover it with a small grill cover for the winter months. I use the hose/scrub brush to clean out the bowls. The moving water keeps it from getting too bad. I scrub the outside parts with a bleach/water mix every now and then. Its raining today but I am going to measure the top bowl. The birds actually wait in the small tree and queue up to get in there. Its the blue jays favorite spot for sure. It was worth every cent I paid for it. Edited: This is it luv2! Too bad its in England, lol. I think I'll be able to find something. I have until spring to find a good replacement Here's 1, I can see it filled during the summer, a bird in every bowl.

What a shame that your fountain died. I remember you posting about it before! Do you think the motor is replaceable? Maybe you can find someone to fix it...

Downylover, your fountain is amazing. I must get a fountain as I heard birds love the sound of running water. I'll look in Lowe's and Home Depot, too. Good luck in finding a replacement.

We had waited for the end of the season and did pick up a cute fountain, It was Lowes or Home depot. I really like the solar ones due to the no wire. have had a few of those over the years. It is a barrel and sliced in half the other side has bowls to cascade the water. It was up and running and then we empied it to go to the lake. Then forgot to set it up and now we will have to wait till after thanksgiving. I have a saucer from a potted plant I fill and leave on the patio. I see the small birds at it. Ginny H.

I went to Home Depot and Lowes but its too late. Christmas stuff is everywhere! I drained the water from the old and this weekend I'm going to take it apart and see if its a replaceable pump like hazel suggested. Its not in perfect shape but the birds love that thing so much I want to keep it if I can replace the pump.
Ginny - I love that picture. He has newly sprouted feathers after going bald!

Its similar but shorter. I've had it for years. I got it on clearance at Home Depot for $59. I definitely got my money's worth! I haven't had a chance but this weekend I'm take a better look and see if the pump is replaceable. Its not very pretty anymore but its loved, lol. That top bowl is the VIP(B?) seat in the yard.

I know I love it! I'm hoping to find someone locally (or at least, a place somewhere not too far away that I can drive to) who sells fountains. If not, I'll have to resort to actually buying something online (gasp! LOL I hate buying things sight unseen)... But for sure, I want to get one by this coming spring. hubby wondered about the solar power part of it, though--could it be the solar unit that failed instead of the pump? He tells me those solar panels don't last very long--but as far as I know, he's hearing that 2nd or 3rd hand, because he hasn't had any personal experience with them. o.o (And if he's trying to talk me out of getting one, it's not working--I still want one! LOL)
