Here we go! Really sparse this first weekend, but I made the mistake of not feeding all summer this year and looks like I'ii have to work for my birds for a while. Although, the first snow flurry will bring them in droves! I also lost some large tree branches and one ivy-covered cedar in a nor'easter this year, and there is an increase of feral cats in the neighborhood.
NOV 14-15 Sunny, Windy, Temps 38 - 61, watched for 4 hrs total
Cooper's Hawk 1 Mourning Dove 2 Downy Woodpecker 1 American Crow 1 American Robin 1 Carolina Chickadee 1 Tufted Titmouse 2 Chipping Sparrow 2 House Finch 6 no eye disease House Sparrow 35

Maybe the hawk had a little to do with the low number, too? Nice variety of species, though. I figure if I can draw in chickadees, a titmouse or two, and one or more types of sparrow, it's a good day! So are you getting snow this week from the system coming through here, now? All the snow passed south of us so we didn't get a bump in numbers at all...

Nice variety, Mary. I watch for only an hour. Had 5 House Sparrows and 15 Mourning Doves. I think the House Sparrows have taken the place of the Grackles.

Nice count Mary and good to see you "on the forum" again! I like the variety you get - and I'm sure you'll get more as the season progresses and the snow arrives.

Weird week, no chickadees or titmice..mouses..meece...whatever! And only house sparrows. The birds don't know which way to fly.... 37 degrees to 68 degrees! A smattering of rain on Saturday, watched for about 3 hours this week and only in the mornings... had to lead a walk at Forsythe WMA on Saturday afternoon and family stuff Sunday.

It's been a weird autumn all 'round, it seems! My chickadees and titmouse disappear for a day or two and then suddenly it seems like everywhere you look, there's one looking back at you. Go figure.... You still have wrens, though! I miss our wrens, even if they are just plain ol' house wrens.

Very nice count Maryf, and congrats. on still having a Chipping Sparrow, all my Chippers have flown South. Our weather is the same, 70*F. one day and 40*F. the next, it's up and down like a window blind, we are expecting some snow between Wednesday and Thursday.

Fish crow! Something I've never seen! They seem to visit you pretty regularly, though. Do they have as many vocalizations as American crows have? I love crows--always up to something!

Weird, I replied to you HRM and it disappeared! Anyway, fish crows are usually on the beached in Cape May or the Delaware Bay, but they come up the rivers to winter near me. We have a joke about their vocalization... you ask "are you an American Crow?" and they respond "uhn-uhn". They sound like crows on very good drugs!

DEC 13-14 SO happy to see Momma Redbelly on Sunday! Hope she brings home her old man, would love to have a breeding pair again. So watched both days, about 4 hours total, no precip, ridiculously warm weather, I think we actually hit 70 at one point.
