Hope everyone stays safe and dry in this storm. Worry about the birds. Got all the feeders filled, and the birdbath filled, too. Good luck, all!

I worry too. They're all out there eating and I have plenty of food for them. Stay safe and warm everyone!
Edited: 9:30am Sat: Well we already have almost a foot and still have 20+ hours to go. Guess the 12" prediction is a thing of the past! They changed it to 2 feet now.

Holy catz! Been watching the news and the pictures are incredible! How did you all weather the storm? Everyone okay? Still have power? I saw some pics of the Jersey shore with all the pre-snow flooding--and then you got snow on top of that mess, too? Aarrrrgghhhhhh!
Be safe!

Hazel, we were ready for the storm. Got 17 inches. It stopped snowing at 5 PM and that no sooner happened, we then lost power for 3 hours. Snow and loss of power drive me crazy. We're pretty high so don't flood. I couldn't get to the feeders, so threw seed on top of the snow. A lot of birds came to feast so the seed didn't go to waste. (the feeders were piled with snow.) I kept feeding them that way, so all is well. Will continue to do so until it melts. Hard to get the snow-blower back there.

I'm glad to hear you didn't flood. I saw parts of NJ on the news with streets that looked like icy rivers. I can't even imagine how awful flooding like that would be in addition to the blizzard.
Thankfully I never lost power. The thought of losing power freaks me out ever since the hurricane when it was out for 13 days. I got 26.5" of snow with massive drifts around. Of course a huge drift by the car, right on the way to the feeders, etc. I dug out to the feeders twice during the blizzard to bring food. This morning you'd never know I bothered so I dug again. LOL they were getting impatient with my slow digging.
Everything is clear and now we melt. In general they do a great job clearing the roads around here. Even the side streets were all plowed early. Hoping there won't be any more major snows this year. One is enough for me.

I'm glad neither of you had any major problems and only minor power outages. I hate it when the power is out, too--we finally bought a couple of generators. But holy catz, you guys got a lot of snow!! We have a system due through on Tues or Wed that may drop a lot of snow on us, but no one is committing to an amount, yet. I'm hoping it's not anywhere near 17", much less 26.5"!!

We had 2 feet of snow, did not lose power for it was the light fluffy stuff and not a heavy wet snow. Knew it was coming, filled all the feeders, also, distributed bird feed on the back porch and accompanied by a heated ground birdbath. Was snowed in from Friday on to Saturday a week. Thank heaven for warmer temps., it helped with snow melt. Will try to send some pics.

We got 11" today. Monday night is supposed to be another storm so we'll see what we end up with. We had no winter and now we're getting it all in 3 weeks.
And the groundhog was a liar, hahaha!

Downylover, I heard Long Island got hit bad the last time. Losing power is the most frustrating. I hope Monday's predicted snow doesn't happen. Good luck everyone!

49K people lost power. I am so happy I was not one of them. I can deal with the snow but I am very unhappy when I lose power. Latest reports are saying its going to snow for the next 3 days but somehow only snow 4". We'll see. Their track record for accurate predictions is dismal this winter.
BarbK, I think you are in the same track for the snow but can't tell for sure.

Yes, luv2! All the groundhogs made a pact hoping they'll get to nap in peace next year.

Groundhogs have it easy. If there's no shadow to be seen, Spring is only 6 wks away. If they see their shadow, Spring is still half a dozen weeks away! LOL Unlike the weathermen, who never get it right, groundhogs have called it right 100% of the time. I hope you didn't get too much snow, downylover! Anyone who has too much snow can send the excess my way! I've only had the snowshoes out once--and that was just to tamp a smooth space to throw seed down on. I didn't really need the snowshoes to get around. So they haven't had much of a workout this winter at all--in fact, they're languishing in the back shower, occasionally whimpering softly to themselves and dreaming of big blizzards. The whining is getting on my nerves, so I hope we get lots of snow soon!

How fabulous that you have snow shoes, and how amazing that you would like more snow, Hazel. It can be pretty, but basically, I don't like it at all. But the snow shoes are a wonderful way to get to the feeders.
