Hi Guys, seams like a long summer. Not getting out much with this heat being so very bad. Went to the beach a week ago and walked along the water and ended up with a whicked headache. Don't ususally get headaches. Thought i was well hydrated with fruit and water during the day. But pint of water , pint of ice tea and advil . So that must have been the case. walking in waves takes a lot I guess. I said it was because i had my cell in my pocket. The scientist agured with me. I am sticking to that. It was so bad I thought i got hit with a bat. So I have been more careful. No weeding that is for sure. Never even got to mulch some gardens. Each weekend is a family party and work to be done. Thankfully last week was indoors it was 100. The family time has been nice. I even had Finn for 14 days, some in Ma. and some in NJ. He is still loving the birds. My hummingbird babies have increased and may be getting another batch. The Eagle nest had three eglets. they fledged last week. One of the area birders has just taken up birding, photography classes and has awesome equipment. (she is the one that won't say where she sees birds) her photo's make mine look like coloring books. lol Gonna go down load some photo's. I had a silly one on my cell phone after watching one of my bird houses and seeing some poking out. Half hour later a mouse crawled out. LOL Ginny H . wrens nesting in our window box the nest has cover osprey on light pole in the field next to us. photo taken from sewing room window . Very nice photos Ginny. Glad to hear you have baby hummers and WOW! all the other great birds. It's been hot here too, we've been as hot as 98*F. this summer, followed by a string of 90+ degree days. I can't wait until Fall arrives, I can always put on a sweater; right now, can't take off too much.lol

Luv 2 . Yes I am also looking forward to fall. We got a short break yesterday and walked the dogs. Other then that some days we did not even want to go out and fill the feeders. But we had to. My Carolina wrens fledged sunday in pouring rain. I was glad I got to see them. they were in that nest most of the time. Now I just see mom and dad come grab seed from the feeder so they must be feeding them in the woods. hardly any tail on them. Stay cool till fall. Ginny H.

I couldn't get it to work, either. Sounds like things are hopping for you this summer, though, Ginny! Nice pics--especially of the catbirds! I love catbirds!

Its sooooooooooo hot & humid. I can't bear sitting outside but I had a little fun last evening anyway. I went out and was filling the feeders and a young red bellied was flapping all around. Junior didn't know where to land I guess because he/she landed on my shoulder (for about a second!) then took off to the tree. He or she was on the suet log the second I walked away so he/she must have really wanted a snack. There was no red at all on the head yet so I couldn't tell if its a boy or girl. I'm so happy to have a young one at the feeder. I've been hearing them but only spotted one in the tree and had almost given up on seeing them come to the feeder.

He or she has mastered landing on the suet log feeder. Still no red on the head that I can see from a distance to know the gender. Last night it was here with the female. She was on the tray feeder and jr was on the log.

Red-bellied woodpecker babies take forever to start showing their head color! Ours are still brown-headed, too, even though the Downy woodpeckers and Hairy woodpeckers have started molting into their adult head patterns.
Oh, and sort of off-topic, but what a thrill--we had an adult Red-headed woodpecker on the suet and one of the platform feeders a couple days ago. Always a thrill to see them! Especially here in the woods...
