We've had so much rain this August that all the ditches and fields are still in bloom, so there hasn't been a whole lot of hummingbird traffic at the nectar feeders. However, once in a while, we're inundated with birds. Yesterday and today were pretty busy--I think we went through 21 cups of nectar today! I've got two links from today, posted via Facebook, but public, so you should be able to view them if you want to: Ruby-throated hummingbirds at the Hazel Run feeders 8-21-16More hummingbirds from 8-21-16I hope the links work. My connection is so bad I can't even play them from FB after uploading them! LOL

I saw them great. Had to watch a few times. AMAZING. I have 5 at most. If I go away I put up the big feeder under a tree in shade. Other wise i have two small tubes. My Dalihas are coming into bloom and they are pecking at them with just a smiggin open. With all the great flowers my dad had i never saw a hummingbird till I was 40 i think. My friend In madison wi. was saying last night on the phone how they are enjoying the hummingbirds. her hubby is a good gardener, they are on the lake. He planted a lot of cardinal flowers which they never got to grow when we lived in Ct. I remember they gave me starters and they did not take in my garden. His mom would always send them seed from her plants. Keep up the good work. I do well with hybiscuis. Thanks for that video. Ginny H.

I suspect JD will enjoy the winter "TV", too--we usually are overrun with goldfinches and/or siskins...and recently, lots of redpolls, too. The thistle feeders are set up in the hummingbird garden once the nectar feeders are retired, so he has good viewing in store for him! Dry food isn't great for cats, anyway, so we already limit him, downylover. At some point, I'd like to try raw. It's something I always wanted to do for the dogs, but we never had enough freezer space... Plenty of freezer space for raw for one itty-bitty cat, though! Glad you enjoyed all the videos! Ginny, I saw your picture on FB--cracked me up! Cool feeder, though! We're down to 2 - 3 feeders and less than 8 cups of nectar a day. Sigh. Almost done for the year. I'll keep the feeders up for a few weeks in case we get a stray rufous (not unheard of in the state, so I keep hoping!).
