Hoping you all in the storm's path stay safe and don't have bad damages...downylover, Barbk, hutchgigi (sp?) and anyone else in the path. You are all in my prayers for safety. I saw Toms River on the early morning news as they waited for it to hit and I thought of Barbk. I heard Long Island mentioned and thought of downylover's place and her critters and birds.

Where I am on LI is supposed to get mainly heavy winds. I don't live in a flood zone so even with some flooding predicted my birds and little critters will be ok. Its supposed to roll in sometime tomorrow afternoon here than apparently hang around until Wednesday (to varying degrees, not the full storm the whole time).
Jersey Shore is supposed to get hit the worst in the northeast - BarbK & Ginny stay safe and check in when you can.
Thanks for asking!

Hope this comes through. Thousands of tropical birds were caught in the eye of Hurricane Hermine and are moving with the storm.

For sure keep an eye on the sky and be safe! It'll be around till Wednesday, Kim? Oy! I hate storms. I'd be a basket case. Praying everyone and their feathered buddies weather the storm.

We were supposed to get lingering effects through Wed. with the storm being tonight and tomorrow. But, its all changed. Hermine blew east so now its sunny and breezy. Beaches are closed and some coastal flooding/erosion could be a problem but hopefully that won't be too bad. I'm relieved. The initial weather reports kept saying "Sandy-like" and I whipped myself up into a panic. They should be slapped for using the S word, lol. Last night I had a female cardinal feeding the smallest baby I've ever seen near the feeders. The head feathers looked like they were barely filled in. He/she was a very loud, very hungry baby. She put the baby a foot away from the door and was bringing peanuts and the catbird food to the baby. I think its the closest view I ever had to a baby being fed. Of course it was almost dark so no picture My birdies will a good meal before I head to my sister's house for a BBQ. Have a great holiday weekend everyone!

Thank you, happybirder and l2b for your concern. We didn't get anything here except the beaches were closed because of the rough surf and rip tides. Even spared the heavy rains predicted. I think the birds are relieved, too.

So relieved that the storm moved off east before causing too much damage! whoot whoot!! downylover--I swear the weather guessers are just trying to drum up business by making stuff out to be as apocalyptic as possible! And you're right--they should be slapped for it! (You go, Girl! )

Yesterday, there was no traffic going to the beach. So many lost out on the beautiful day, even if they couldn't go into the ocean.

Our ocean beaches are still closed for swimming even today because of the rip currents. My niece's husband lifeguards on off weekends (he's a FDNY fireman) during the summer and he was working today because they post a few lifeguards even when closed to swimming. They know no one can listen, lol. It does at least make most people think twice before letting kids go into the ocean. We have LI Sound and Bay beaches here too. Those were open because the water never gets all that rough (compared to ocean waters). Its windier today than it was yesterday but not a drop of rain still. People who surf are all so happy. They don't get waves this large on LI often.
I agree BarbK, I think the birds were probably relieved too. I've had so many birds today. All pretty vocal and all around the yard and patio. I have more baby titmice and song sparrows. It seems late in the year for all these young babies! Cardinals, titmice, song sparrow & chickadees all seem to be on their second broods.
I've been looking out on an off and sat outside for quite awhile hoping to see a new bird who blew in. Nope, no one.

We still have tropical storm warnings. Last night and today have been pretty windy and rain is coming today and all day tomorrow. Nothing too bad but I think its the slowest storm in history.

Pretty much the same for us Ginny. No rain, some wind. I was relieved. My nephew is in the Army and was home for the weekend. If the storm had hit I wouldn't have gotten to see him. We need a picture of Finn in the Mickey Ears.
