I finally talked Al into going out and filling the yard feeders today. He lost his shoe twice. Yes he has boots, no he did not put them on. lol But he did all four stations. The birds really did miss the verity but they were glad they had the window feeders and ground seed. I think the flickers really missed that acorn suet feeder. I have fox and raccoon now taking my stuff. That is why I love that tray feeder al made. No squires, or other cheaters. I hope my counts go up now that the tray has been filled with nuts in shell and not in shell and boss. The snow is a mess with the melting and boss shells. I see puddles on the lake now, but some dumb nugget was walking on the lake with poles. I saw his partner was taking the road. Why risk it. Your photos are wonderful Ginny, especially the sunrise one is breath-taking beautiful.
No boots, with snow that deep, OH MY! Hope he doesn't catch a cold.

Love the fox! Someone will need to go out and rescue the dummy walking on thin ice. I don't get people sometimes.
I have the gross shells everywhere because, genius that I am, I threw seed all over the top of the snow when it was iced (for days and days). There were so many birds here that I was trying to spread the food around and feed them all. I kept doing that and it kept snowing. Now the snow is melting and all the shells are there. Its going to be gross to clean up but I can't wait to be rid of it. It too swampy right now to do anything about it.

Welcome to my world, Kim! I try to keep the area under the feeders raked all winter, but of course a lot of it ends up under snow. Spring is always an 'adventure'. This year we have the added attraction of bird poop all over the yard. Turns out Blue jays poop almost as much as Pine siskins do! LOL

Hazel, as the snow melts we are finding all kinds of things. I replaced so many window feeders since Nov as the squirrel jumped and knocked them down. the snow is melting close to the house and I have a good stash of window feeders. lol Ginny H.

Yes 23 different bird families. I hope to see my pileated soon. Just not being out doors lessens me seeing them. When i hear them I can zone in on which tree. Funny thing was at the home inspection for the NJ house a woodpecker was banging away on the fireplace. I asked the people if they put out suet and they do not. Hopefully that will call him to bang on that instead of the fireplace. lol The hawk was a surprise, they say he never comes and lands.

Nice mix of species, Ginny! I love how your bluebirds are being so faithful and showing up every week!
Spring is always the season of surprises, especially when the snow melts! LOL Now that you've built up your stock of window feeders, next winter you can let it snow, let it snow, let it snow... heheh

Today the common mergansers showed up. Yahoo. They were in the lake not in the yard. I do not recall if they came to the lawn last year. will have to check photo's. The woodpeckers are crazy knocking away at the trees. Finn was asleep in the car after a long ride and I stayed and watched the birds out front which i ussually do not get to see so much. The knocking I heard and what we call monkey chants. lol I just bought new bionoculas at the new Cabelas store that opened. First day, 20 bucks off, they were 29.00 and on sale for 24.99 good buy.. I had just put them into the car yesterday so I got to give a good look into the trees. No leaves yet.
