Sandhill Cranes flew overhead, going north, yesterday.

I hope they know something we don't--like spring isn't as far off as it seems!

I think it may have been a 'day trip' to the little lake Calamity Creek makes!!! It has been just above freezing the last few days and Monday morning it was only 15*. The asparagus is sorry it was woken up!

I love the sound of sandhill cranes flying overhead! I don't hear it nearly as often as I did when living in FL. Migration seems like a far away illusion as I look at inches of snow & ice on my ground!!

I love their sound too. Spring seems to have left here too. I can nearly "hear" the buds on the trees and flowers on the ground yelling "pull back, pull back"! It's been a bit of shock - we went to BBNP (Big Bend Nat'l Park) last Saturday (a few pictures soon) and it was 85* near the river and 73* in the mountains - all with bright sunshine.

Wow! 85?! Ooof dah! How warm does it get at the park during the migration months?

I'll check on that and respond later. Remember that 85* in the desert is very different. I had a long sleeve shirt on all day and was comfortable. I'm guessing but the humidity (near the river where it was 85) was probably in the teens or low twenties.

I'm guessing but the humidity (near the river where it was 85) was probably in the teens or low twenties. I could surely deal with that! I like my humidity a bit higher though - better for the skin and causes fewer nosebleeds! Trouble here is that comfortable weather lasts such a short time - a few weeks each of spring & fall. The rest of the time it's either too hot or too cold for me. Can you believe that we have snow on the ground and pollen allergies are already cranking up??? Mid to high range by mid-week, YUK!

Oh, no, Marilyn! Allergy season already?!
I forgot about the lower humidity--maybe even I could handle 85° with no humidity....maybe. :} heheh

The report is similar to what they say about hiking in the Rockies. Must have layers of clothes for changing temps, always have rain gear, and LOTS of water, along with trail bars. The temps on this chart would be totally doable for me and I would move to the SW in a heartbeat if it didn't mean getting further from family.

Watching for migration birds, so far, it hasn't started up here in SW Pa.

In my opinion the weather here can't be beat for its mildness. You can be outside for at least a part of every day. The only downside is that family isn't nearby, so I totally understand what you are saying.

I haven't seen any migration activity, yet--but there are reports of Baltimore orioles being seen in MN! O.O Holy catz! I could probably handle that weather for a short trip. Especially if it were in the winter! LOL I think I'd miss winter if I lived somewhere south, though.
