Squished! LOL Yeah, I think chipmunks and bunnies are my preferred speed, too!

I love wildlife but I think coming face to face with a big bear would be too much for me. Chipmunks and bunnies are more my speed. LOL!! I love wildlife too but agree that a bear, coyote, etc would be too much for me face to face! My husband is afraid of snakes and we discovered 2 more skins here the other day. It has taken me a long time to get him to have me look at any snake before he kills it, although he did kill a poor little harmless 12" long red-bellied snake a few weeks ago.

hubby is finally coming around to the benefits of having snakes around and has actually handled one or two little ones to save them from the marauding ways of the Pack. But he sort of gets the willies from them, too. I came face-to-face with a fox a few years back--that was quite the experience! Anything bigger than that, though, makes me a little nervous!

hubby is finally coming around to the benefits of having snakes around Steve knows they have benefits too, but they still scare the wits out of him! Apparently he had a few near misses in 'Nam & Korea while in the Army and they left a BIG impression!

hubby tells me he never would have survived Nam cuz of the snakes so it was a good thing he didn't get sent there. He'd probably have shot himself or a buddy while trying to shoot the first snake to cross his path. I would probably have gotten bit trying to make friends with the first snake to cross my path... I hope I'm not sorry tomorrow. It's raining so I just left the feeders out there again. I hope the bears are staying in out of the weather... On a different note--we've already got over a dozen hummers coming to the feeders at one time and they went through 5 cups of nectar today! Looks like it's going to be a good hummer summer!

That's a lot of nectar! Have fun making all that, and Happy Hummingbirding! Of course you know we all want pics of the feeding frenzies!
I do hope your bears stayed away last night. You sure have your hands full with the wildlife up there.
And as for the snakes, well... I'm not running up to any. But I always check them out to see what we have... and to get pictures!!

*sigh* Okay, so the bear hasn't moved on. Still well-behaved, though--knocked over one shepherd's hook and cleaned the BOSS out of the platform feeder. Smashed the dome over it, though. Evidently didn't like suet dough cuz it only bent the cage slightly trying to open it, then let it lie with the suet dough cake in it. (Yeah, I wouldn't eat that stuff, either--hubby bought it by accident! LOL) All the other feeders, including the hopper feeder and platform feeder on a shepherd's hook 12 feet away, were fine. But I guess I don't get a bye even when it's rainy--I'll just have to bring them in every night no matter what... I do have some footage and a few pics of hummers from this morning. Will try to get some editing done later today--but I still have half of March and all of April to do, so I'll feel guilty working on current stuff! (I'll get over, though! LOL)

We had only rare bear visits in Ashland. Sorry you have to lug in feeders every night, sheesh! One night/early evening in Ashland a bear slapped the side of the house. We think he was mad the BOSS feeder was nearly empty! Another visit was when I was baking peanut butter cookies. I heard some tapping by the kitchen window. Turned on the back light and a cub was trying to get the thistle seed feeder at the window!! Mama and second cub were 20 feet away at the platform feeder.

I would have liked to see the cubs!! I'm sure the family was attracted by the smell of your cookies, Lue! Did you toss them some? I'd want to invite them in for milk to go with those cookies but the Pack forbids such acts of rashness! (Thankfully! LOL) How weird that the one bear slapped the side of the house! I have a friend up near Frederic who as a feeder stuck way high up on a window that the bear tries to raid. O.O She has an impressive collection of paw smears on the window! Oy! That'd make me nervous. I suspect she finally took the feeder down cuz it was making her nervous, too!
