I have been having password problems for a long time...finally just changed it so I can log in. Have been reading all the posts even tho I could not log in and post. My knee is so much better. I exercised my knee and leg to death so I could build up muscle strength. Used wheelchair and walker for many months and two weeks ago I started using a cane with a neat little four leg end on it. So much less bulky than a walker. For a couple of days, I've even walked a good bit without the cane but I don't want to rush walking without the cane. Don't trust myself outside just yet on uneven surfaces but it will happen before long. I still roll around in the kitchen using the wheelchair to cook and prep foods as I can put things in my lap whereas I cannot pack hot water and casseroles and things with the walker or cane. Also could not stand for long periods to prepare meals so the wheelchair was a big help. Am so tired of sitting! I'm such an outdoors-y person and this has about killed me to watch life pass me by. Our birdies have been such great little pals thru this past winter that was so bad for us. Juncos have been gone for a couple of weeks. We still have crowns and white throats. Purples are gone. We are looking for hummers at our huge azaleas and for grosbeaks to arrive. They both arrive about 4/26 and indigo buntings are usually here by 4/16 bit they have not arrived yet. Have to enter all my 21 Cornell counts yet.
Glad to hear things are going better, walkers are bulky and hard to maneuver, I use a 4 pronged cane now too.
Looking forward to your posts. Happy you're back, Missed You,
l2b

So glad you are back! You've made my day! I've (we've all) missed you. Also happy the knee/leg is better birdnutz. Your determination and doing all those exercises paid off. Those 4 pronged canes can be life savers!

That is a very fancy cane Lue.
What I like about 4 prong canes is they can stand alone.
When sitting they stay propped-up at my side.
Wishing you the very best of luck,

Hazel...when you asked how my husband was doing, I didn't answer because we had to wait for another PSA test so I could give an accurate report. He had a checkup on Feb. 23 as a two years after he began pills and shots for prostate cancer and his doctor said she wanted a PSA three months from then to assess what his numbers would be after all the meds/shots had run out. They didn't call us to schedule that PSA in late May so I called them on 6/1 and nagged them about calling in the order for the PSA...so he got it done that morning. We got the results back and it was a good report. My hands absolutely shake when I go to open the envelopes with the test results...it is such a worry to always be under such a strain when dealing with cancer treatments.
He has a urologist appointment on 8/24 just a follow-up and an appointment with his radiation oncologist on 10/29 and a PSA on 12/1. His radiation oncologist said she does not use the 'cure' word until three years from diagnosis which she said is the biopsy data...so that would be 12/27. He'll have to have a PSA every six months the rest of his life just as a precaution that nothing creeps back in.
So, everything is going as well as possible with him.
I've been walking more and more without the cane but use it to be a little more safe when I need to. I don't trust myself outside much yet but I did go out onto our east porch and swept it really good and that made me feel so good...I'm going to try going out other doors and hope to be able to get out with the trash and see all the pretty things in the yard soon. I've come a long way and I'm ready to get about more outside.

Happy to hear everything is going well for your husband. Also very glad to hear you're up and about. Hopefully you'll be out in the yard just in time for the baby birds.
Nice to have you back on the board as well.

I would be the same way - stressing about lab results. Glad it has been good news!! And very happy to hear you are doing better and getting around more! Yay! Your hard work has paid off. I am sure the yard and birds have missed you greatly!

I'm so glad that you got a good report on your husband. And congrats. on your progress, hoping you'll be out and about in no time at all, but please be very careful, uneven ground can throw you, take it from someone who knows, (with my weight, I added another depression in my yard.)

Happy Birder that is good news and relax for a while with that news. Enjoy your summer and I hope the walking gets better each day. Ginny H.

Thanks, Ginny...I haven't used the cane in the house for a long time but use it to get out of the house and to go outside. Three weeks ago, I walked down my long driveway and back to get the mail and have done so each day since...we are WAY off the road so it is a good walk for me. Slow and steady works for me.

That's wonderful, happybirder! I'm just getting out walking again after banging up an ankle last June--I'm on the 'mailbox protocol', too!
