Barb, do you get mockingbirds all year off and on? I wish our crows would come for the corn, l2b. I love crows and ravens, but nothing I offer seems to entice them to visit.... Maybe? adding peanuts in the shell? The Jays love them, I imagine Crows will also.

Our crows like fish, and rolls. they like to fight over a chunk of bread. If someone else leaves some fish pieces behind. They will fight over it. Ginny H..

I put out peanuts in the shell. The best customers were the Blue Jays and Tufted Titmice. Don't recall any crows coming down for them. Must get the shelled peanuts again for the birds.

Bran muffins! Who woulda thunk it! LOL If they don't mind them being stale, I could try that! I do offer peanuts out of the shell but they never last long enough for the crows or ravens to notice them. We have about 100 blue jays out there right now and they gobble down most everything but the BOSS within the hour! O.O
We don't get mockingbirds at all, though I wish we did. I know they can be pesty, but I really like them. I've only ever seen them on a trip I took to VA way back in the early 80s...oh, gosh, yes--in the last century!! Makes me feel ancient to say that! LMBO

The crows were so funny with the bran muffins I put out. There were about three on the ground at one time eyeing them, then the male (he was bigger than the others) bravely walked up to a piece and grabbed it. The female was so cautious. I really had to laugh. She was only a few feet away from a piece of muffin, but it took her forever to get to it. What about putting out some whole wheat bread? Once in a while a crow will show up at the birdbath to dunk his bread. It's always white bread or part of a white roll which I figure he got at one of the dumpsters outside a restaurant. I really enjoy them.

Where would they be getting the fish, do you suppose? What kind of fish? Like whole-bodied carp carcasses...or just pieces of fish?
We never have white bread or rolls in the house any more, more's the pity. And the bread we do get is sprouted grain and so expensive that I'd hate to share with the birds! LOL I'm such an awful bird hostess! Saving the good stuff for myself! LMBO

I have crows on and off in the summer and they seem to like grapes. Once in awhile I'll cut up a cob of corn for the squirrels and the crow has taken a piece and flown off with it.
They dunk their food in the bird bath here too Barbk.

I've tried to tempt them with corn, but with 3 dozen squirrels running around, you know how long the corn lasts... I don't think the crows get a chance to find it! Grapes, though--have never tried grapes. Red or green?

Both. Grapes are loved by the cardinals and catbirds too.

Will definitely have to try some. Robins are due back sometime next week and maybe they'd like some grapes, too! But whoa! Where did the winter go!?

Hazel, we get Robins all the time. So many of them on the lawn. They also love the birdbath and will look over the bird seed but never partake, of course. By the way, my Mockingbird is still around. See her/him every once in a while. Put out jelly. She does like the suet.
Downylover, you are so kind to your squirrels putting out corn for them. I do throw seed on the ground for them, though.

I don't put out corn too often. I feed the squirrels more in the winter because I feel bad for them when snow covers the ground. I have to back off now as spring is nearing or I will be completely overrun with them all summer. I don't mind giving them some snacks but I don't want dozens of them.
Since mockingbirds were mentioned - my sister feeds a mockingbird that flies to the flowerbed shrubs when my sister opens the front door. Sis puts out a few mealworms on the porch and the bird flies over and takes them. It started a couple of years back when they nested in the shrubs and she'd put some out for them. Sis feeds her in the morning before leaving for work and just before dinner. When its snows or is really cold sis gives her more. My sister laughs because now she feels like the bird flies over every time she opens the door.

Thankfully, we're down to about 8 couples, Ginny. And they tend to be a little quieter during the breeding season!

Yes I notice a lot of paring off. I only see the blue jays if I put peanut in shells out on the tray. Today I had crows cause i threw a bunch of left over bagles out beyond the fence. One went up the the chimney and was caw caw down to us. lol
