We've had so much rain this August that all the ditches and fields are still in bloom, so there hasn't been a whole lot of hummingbird traffic at the nectar feeders. However, once in a while, we're inundated with birds. Yesterday and today were pretty busy--I think we went through 21 cups of nectar today! I've got two links from today, posted via Facebook, but public, so you should be able to view them if you want to: Ruby-throated hummingbirds at the Hazel Run feeders 8-21-16More hummingbirds from 8-21-16I hope the links work. My connection is so bad I can't even play them from FB after uploading them! LOL

Beautiful! How much nectar do you use in a week? That's a lot of mouths your feeding.

Migration was weird this year. Lots of rain has kept us uncharacteristically green, lush, and blooming for late August and there are a lot of flowers available in the ditches and in meadows, so traffic at the feeders is sporadic. We had a few 21-cup days but mostly we seem to be in the 15- to 16-cup range, which is a little below normal for migration. Still, that's plenty! LOL They do keep us busy!

We're on the back-side of the migration now--down to 3 feeders. I already miss them and they're not even gone, yet!

Have you ever submitted any of your photos to National Geographic? They have photo contests. I think you should. Your photos are gorgeous, especially the hummers.

Nah. I don't have that much time for the camera anymore and most of what I take these days isn't very high quality. I've been trying to find the time to get out in the blind all summer and so far I've managed it twice, for a grand total of about 45 minutes... Sigh. So many chores, so little time...plus who knew cats would be so labor intensive! LOL

They're a real joy to watch, BarbK! Ha, the indomitable JD, you mean? heheh He's doing great. We think the URI is going to be chronic, but by all I've heard, that shouldn't impact him too badly. We're slowly introducing him to the Pack...and he's still alive despite wanting to jump on their heads and bite their elbows, so we have hopes that eventually they'll be able to be in the same room. He still loves watching the Nature TV Channel outside his window--he's going to feel as let down as we will when the hummers finally clear out for the winter! *sigh*

My friend's cat does the same--watches the Nature TV channel outside the window. In the winter she demands the window open (with the screen down, of course), and they oblige until it gets too cold! I'm a dog lover and equally love cats, too.

Happy to hear JD is doing well. FWIW my niece's cat had chronic URI and the vet had her feed him some special food as he got older. I know for most of his life she couldn't feed him too much dry food.
I love pretty much every kind of animal.
