Nice! No Sandhills here and we still seem totally immersed in winter. This morning there were over 300 siskins and more than 150 redpolls at the feeders bccause it was snowing and cold.

WHEW!! That is some crew to get breakfast for!! I put up a hummer feeder today. I thought I heard one and Cliff thought he saw one zip by the window... a week to two weeks early but we'll see.

I put up a hummer feeder today Wow, it seems like I just took my nectar feeders down! Time to put them up already? Where does the time go?

omd, nectar feeders already!!! O.O I did see that the first hummers of the year have made landfall on the Gulf Coast, though. I guess I should start thinking about getting those feeders cleaned and ready for the year...

Thanks l2b, we're good. The low desert (below 3000') never gets very cold . With us in the higher desert and mountains we get cold sometimes. The good thing is that it never lasts very long. 3-4 days

To my surprise, yesterday I saw two Robins and today I saw one Red-winged Blackbird. Usually this does not happen this early.

Our robins and bluebirds are supposed to be trickling back now, but I've not seen any. Maybe they took a side trip to SW PA, l2b!

Our Curve-billed thrasher pair have been checking out nesting sites for the past couple weeks, the Cactus Wren has a new nest made and the Says Phoebe's are checking out options. Spring is here in the high desert.... Maybe!

That does sound promising, Lue!! Your birds sound so exotic to my northern ears! LOL Any of those would be lifers for me! The woodpeckers and nuthatches are definitely defending territories, though ownership of the feeder line is still a matter of hot debate; the redpolls and siskins are definitely moving north (last week we went through 60 lbs of thistle and this week I only have to fill the feeders every third day!); the purple finches are singing...but none of the migrants from the south are back. I think all that snow south of us is holding them up. Here, though, we're already in drought--only .7" of liquid precip in 2015, which puts us 1.34" below normal for the year already.

Has the Road Runner returned, can they fly?
