She went in it about 45 seconds after landing, the time it took her to waddle over to it. She'd been here 4 times this afternoon (once solo) and has been in and out of her pool each time. He's only stuck his head in. The other times he walks over and stands right there like he's her life guard.

She sure does look like she's enjoying it!! Ha! Making herself right at home!
So do you think they're nesting close by?

I have no idea where they are nesting. They fly in and out from all directions. I thought maybe the neighbor with a pool but I don't think so. She'd probably be yelling at her husband to drain the pool and make them leave, lol

LOL Ah, the trials and tribulations of pool owners! Likely they're in someone's bushes--they don't always nest close to water. My Dad was a teacher in Wauwatosa WI and the school building wrapped around an inner courtyard with just a few exits. The ducks would successfully hatch out a brood of ducklings in the courtyard bushes every year, even though they were nowhere near water and surrounded by busy roads! I think the school and/or the local police department would help escort them to the nearest park every year when they were ready to go...

I have to search tomorrow - I swear I just saw this on the news or in a magazine!

I wonder if they still nest there? It's been decades since Dad taught there...but I think the school is still in service in some capacity (though perhaps no longer as a school).

I think they're getting ready to go. I haven't seen him in 3 days and she's been making 1 visit (that I see at least) a day and its brief. Last summer when that happened they were gone soon after. I'm bummed. They arrived earlier but haven't been here nearly as much as last summer. They do not like the crow (who suddenly loves it here) at all and I think maybe that is contributing to it. I'm thankful they spend any time here but I'll be sad if they leave weeks earlier than last year.

Maybe she's on eggs now. I don't think the males do much to help rear the family, so it's the female that I'm hoping will come back to you--with babies in tow!

She returned this afternoon! She runs right to the patio when I go out and eats her seed so fast. She really seems hungry. I haven't seen him in days. My niece thinks the male goes back to the pond or something when the babies hatch because you always see just the female leading the babies in pictures, videos, etc. The male is never anywhere in sight.
I don't think I'll ever see ducklings. She flies in from all directions. The only place I think they may be is a nursing home. Its a private property but & they do have a really big pond. I live 1-2 miles from water but I can't see her flying that far for some seed and a dip in the tiny pool. They come and go from every direction so I can't even tell where the are coming from/going to.

Apparently Mr. Duck did not like being called a deadbeat dad and bad husband. I haven't seen him for days but tonight there he was looking right at me. He barely ate anything but just stood by her, chased the crow & squirrel when they approached where she was and waited for her. She ate a lot of food and took 5 or so dips in her pool. They were here about 40 or so minutes.
Luv2 - I will definitely get some kind of picture if babies ever show up. LOL probably blurry because I'd be so excited to see them.
