Hello all birders. What a winter, long, so much illness. I hope you are all well and heading into spring where you live. I am enjoying the birds that are arriving each week. the osprey arrived this week. Two in the field nest. The marina nest has had an owl in it threw feb.March. Only saw one osprey who was on a near by light post eating. That nest has never produced young and they are young osprey. I had high hopes for this summer. Now with this owl who knows. I had heard a cat bird a few days before. a bunch of starlings are still here. dark eye juncos are still here. I now notice the count of one or two yellow rumps are now four on the hot suet. We still have a front yard full of snow due to no sun there. Our back yard is grass. I had ordered a new feeder from easy and i was not on the window as long as it took al to put it up and fill it. Cedar with three suction cups. ugg. Will let the maker know. How are the birds in your area? Ginny Hutchison.

Howdy, Ginny!
We're experiencing that 'slow melt' time of year, gradually descending into Mud Season, which is just a shadow on the horizon right now. But it's still cold and there's still 8 inches of crusted, icy snow on the easement, making it really hard to walk the dogs there.
Saw a few signs of spring today on the way to Marshfield, though--two Sandhill Cranes and lots of grackles and red-winged blackbirds. The robins have been back for a while and I heard a bluebird singing next door earlier last week. The redpolls that dominated our yard all winter have all but disappeared, perhaps more precipitously than normal because of the arrival of a young sharp-shinned hawk that found them irresistible.
Oh, and I got some pictures of a rough-legged hawk and the sandhills today on our road trip, but since I'm more than a year behind in my editing, it'll be a while before I have any pictures to share.... *sigh* Right now I'm concentrating on dog pictures from March of 2017.

Hi all! Spring is slowly arriving here. We just had a foot and half of snow a few days ago, 4 nor'easter storms in 10 days. The chipmunks have come out of hiding, I saw a bunny & the male cardinals are singing their little hearts out (at 5:00 am, I wish they'd start a little later, lol) so spring is official now. I had the ducks fly in during a snowstorm but they haven't been back since. The male stood in the birdbath - I think it was to make a point that their pool was not available. I've had some huge groups of the dreaded grackle move through but (knock on wood) too many haven't stuck around yet.

Ooooo....ducks already!! And 18 inches of snow... Believe it or not, I'm a little envious of your snow. And your ducks! We have grackles, though. heheh
