Not much birding time or garden time this summer. We had lost a friend husband, a week later my 97 year old father in law in florida. WWII Veteran , My husband and kids took flights back and forth. Then he passed with no one there. His Wife had been there the night before. My family went down July 1 weekend, to the wake his wife had planned. Florida wakes are very different from up North. Uncle Al warned us of funeral homes with no chairs. You want to visit go home. they got a half hour to view and pushed it to 45 minutes. They had him in a tea shirt from the nursing home. they had just moved him from Home to end of life the day before. My kids got a Giants hat of his out of the car to put on him. Now he wanted to be cremated and why his wife did not do this we do not know. Out of my husbands plans. They took her to dinner and lunch during the days up to this viewing. Not a flag or Veteran to be there. We wanted to share the ashes with our kids. So today a bag arrived, his wife texted friday they were in the mail. So I text the kids Grandpa is in the house, or part of him.
A week later my brother in law. Richard Kulesa, 65 years old 34 year veteran. At a NJ Vineland veterans nursing home for the past three years. Taken well care of by my sister and her childern and grandchildren . Faboulous nurses and Drs. The wake, funeral, bruial was like something from a movie. Hard on the heart and eyes. My sister is three years older then I and it was hard. I have sisters in the late 70, 80. I felt very bad for her granddaughters. That will not know this great man. They have only known him in his declining state.
I tried to get back to bird watching this week. Went to Edwin Forsythe but could not open a window with green fly season. These are the osprey in the field next to us. I think only one grew up. there were fights and squawks fathers day weekend I think one got taken.
