Poor birds. We just has snow/rain/ice that's still on the lawns and now a big blizzard is predicted. They are saying between 1 and 2 feet plus 35-55 mph winds. I'll make sure their feeders are filled in the morning and have my extra ones all ready to hang right near the door if I can't get to the feeders for a day or two. I moved the heated bath pretty close to the door so hopefully I can get to it to give them water. I wish they'd fly an hour or 2 away, lol. I would if I had wings.

Hoping you'll be safe, downylover, thru this awful storm! Poor birdies...it makes me so sad to watch them in such adverse conditions. Be safe and don't fall and hurt yourself!

Wow Kim - that sounds like some blizzard!! Hopefully the predictions won't come true! Stay safe, be careful. Sounds like you have a great plan for feeding and watering the birds.

They updated and its worse now, 2-3 feet. Where I am is listed as expecting 32-36". Oh joy. At this point I'm just hoping the winds are less. Winds are what brings down the power, etc.

Yikes! Less wind would be good. Fingers crossed.

Good news is we've been downgraded back to 18-24". Hahaha you know its bad when 2 feet sounds promising. Hopefully the winds will be less than predicted too (they aren't kicking in until this evening).
Birds are gobbling food and taking baths left and right. I'm doing my best to keep them fed by putting out small amounts all around the ground (the feeders were filled) throughout the day so there's food not covered by snow. I have 2 blue jays that I think have been right outside the door all day. They squawk, I throw them peanuts. They have me trained.

Hope the wind will miss you, Kim, I know what's it's like to be without electricity; two feet of snow is a nightmare.

I hope that Ginny will be O.K. too, for she is in the storm crosshairs also.

I've been listening to the local 24/7 weather station and following the storm--holy catz! Sounds like it's going to be hairy for a while! I hope your power stays on! Ginny's, too! The snow I can handle, but the wind...that's something else again! Be safe!

I'm worried about running out of bird seed. I didn't plan well. I put out so much today because there are so many out there. I just overpaid and ordered a 20lb bag from amazon. Plows willing it will get here by Thursday so I should be good to go. I have enough for a couple of days.
The weather reports are making me crazy. The snow totals keep going up and down. We're back to 3 feet again. Who knows, in an hour it can be back at 2. I think Ginny will be around the same. It looks like Long Island up to Boston is where the brunt of the storm will be. Everything is shutting down by tonight so hopefully that will allow the clearing to go smoothly. It seems they're doing every thing they can to make sure they are ready. Extra plows from upstate, some national guard, closing things early instead of waiting, etc. I even had a plow go by already.
I wish it was a count day! I must have had 25 juncos out there. I don't recall ever seeing so many of them.

It sure continues to sound like a record breaking storm. I am glad the officials of the area are thinking ahead and keeping folks safer. Lyn just wrote a post on the old forum (I gave her links to this one and an invite to join), about the storm brewing in the NW! Whew! Both coasts are getting hammered! She has Hoary's and Redpolls that came in for food.

Nice to see a post from you birdnutz! How's the weather at your place? Are you warmer than you were a couple weeks ago? Hope so!

How much snow did you end up with, downylover? Did your power stay on? Hope you're staying warm and you didn't run out of seed!!

Thanks for asking! Power remained! We ended with 22" but the drifts were much higher. And of course the drifts always end up right in the walkways, near the car, etc. I haven't shoveled to feeders yet but am set up in my storm mode and they don't seem to mind at all. I still have seed left and the bag from Amazon is coming tomorrow. I'm not worried now that I can get out but I'm glad its being delivered. The news this morning said we may get more on Thursday night but just an inch or so.
New England seemed to get it worse (I read 3 feet-ish) so hoping Ginny has power.

Glad to hear you are warm and safe and you still have some birdfeed left. We are also expecting rain/snow mix, changing to all rain, then back to freezing rain and then all snow on Thursday night into Friday Morning. Temps. will be below freezing on Friday.
