I've seen this bird the last couple mornings. A bit smaller than the HOFI and tail shorter. Has wing bars similar to an American Goldfinch. Poor light and too far from window for any pictures. If you recall, I had that Yellow-rumped Warbler a few months ago. I don't see yellow like the male I posted the pic of but maybe this is a first year? Of course I never see it after sunrise.

Maybe a Pine Siskin? John

Maybe, I hadn't thought of that. We have many of them and maybe it was just puffed out a lot because of the cool mornings. Good idea, thanks - although a Warbler would've been nice!

That does sound like a siskin would fit the bill! And if you want some, John, I'd love to send you a couple...hundred.... LOL They emptied 5 thistle feeders today!

Oy! That puts a crimp in the seed budget! Maybe it is good you have short days in the winter!

They've been going through about 25 lbs of thistle a week lately... Still, it's fun to see all the activity, especially on frigid days when we're housebound due to cold. And now the redpolls are showing up more often, too--I think we're up to about 3 dozen redpolls in amongst the siskins.

Guess what? We had about a dozen today! We have about 12 inches of snow on the ground and temperature of 17 with it going below zero tonight. We are having a big winter, records from 1936 are being broken. John

Congrats on your siskins!!
I'm envious of your snow. We're getting passed by almost every time a storm comes through...

That's cool - Redpolls would be a treat to see. Since I won't be up north in winter... I'll have to check where I would need to travel in summer to see them! Just looked on my bird app - I won't be that far north - even in summer!!!
