Please help. Could this Common Grackle be of the Bronze Race and not of the Purple Race? We're not suppose to have the Bronze Race Grackles, only Purples.
Thank you in advance,

This photo is a mess but the best I could do; is he bronze or is he purple?
Please chime in,

luv2, all I know he is the "dreaded" Grackle. Interesting that there are two versions. Must Google it.

I've never made the distinction, but according to Sibley's book, the back and wings would have uniform bronze iridescence on the back and wings, and your bird seems to have a lot of purple iridescence on the wings and at least the top of the back--so I think if I had to choose, I'd probably go with Purple... I had to pull up one of the few grackle images I have to check, now that I know there's a difference. We're interior, so I'd expect Bronze here, I guess: Attachment DeletedThe bronze on this one looks more uniform than on your bird, but this is a new thing to me, so I'm no expert...

Thanks, BarbK and Hazel. Barb, I agree, they are dreaded. Hazel, I think you are correct, it is of the Purple race
Thanks again, to both of you, for responding,

I have to look more closely, I don't know which I have.
