Each year the catbirds return on May 1st. This year they were 1 day early. I'm happy they are back. They're such sweet birds to have around the yard.

I've only seen a catbird in nature when I visited in MD. Never at any of my residences. They are sweet! I'll have to check the range map to see if I should have them nearby.

My sister hears them in her yard but hardly ever sees them. They're really skiddish if they do come out. In my yard they are the opposite. They get more comfortable as the summer goes on. By the end of June they run within 6 feet of me and sit and "meow". They're a little shy when they first get here. I make their catbird treat (chunky PB & corn meal), toss some on the ground and they fly in. I've never had luck with grape jelly but they like red grapes and blueberries too and they definitely prefer to eat from the ground.

I'm totally envious! I have grape jelly out for them already but so far I haven't even heard one, much less seen one in the yard or at the feeder. I'll have to try your treat recipe--I think I have some corn meal that I should probably use up, anyway! This'll be a good way to do it!
