I've been in MN for the last few days. Visiting family, attending a reunion, seeing old friends. Turned out I would be at my niece's home in WI AND she lives near HRM!! So email arrangements were made to meet. I met the wonderful HRM and was treated to some fine birdwatching and toured the feeding area. She brought out a hummingbird feeder for me to hang - thinking the hummers would come and land by my hand. They weren't fooled. They knew it was a "desert rat" vs. the gentle HRM! I also met the energetic and delightful pack. Had great fun being greeted by and greeting the dogs! Thank you HRM for a fun visit. I enjoyed it very much.

I agree, it was great to meet after 7+ years of "knowing each other" on the forum. The pack were well behaved gentlemen and ladies.

What a nice thing the two of you got to meet. I'm such a fanatic for numbers and when I saw 7+ years it just didn't seem possible. I signed up 11/5/2009 and knew Hazel signed up after I did.
I looked it up on the old forum:
forum.feederwatch.org/domainstats/activemembers
It has the dates everyone signed up and the forum started on 12/19/2008.
What a nice bunch of birders we've had thru the years!
But...I know there were some who visited using the online thing before the forum.feederwatch.org site began so the 7+ years is likely including that...and I just read on that and never participated. Been a long time since anyone used that.

There was that listserve thing-a-ma-bob before the forum was set up I think--but listserves always feel awkward to me. I never did really get the hang of listserve messaging. I was very happy when I found the link to the forum.

I love the fact that people on the Forum come from far and wide. But it's really nice when Forum members can meet in person, especially after so many years of "talking" to each other.

Yes, it was really nice to meet. Remember when we 'joked' about everyone meeting up? That was a while ago too. A convention or something...

Hi Barb, We are here for the month if you want to meet for a walk or coffee let me know. Things are going slow with getting the new house organized with all the coming and going trips. The birds are on the low side after all the babies showing up. The seed is lasting a long time and I think the hummingbird is mad at us. I left the 4 hybiscius for her but two of them died. Not sure why. the sprinkler was in the range. I guess you guys had hotter weather. I want to try and spoil them and get them back to blooming. The deer have chewed my hosta and black eye suzies cornflowers. I did see the cardinal. lots of bunnies. The osprey have the young flying around. So it is just a bit of a lul. I usually see the black cap and tt all the time. Hutchgigi@gmail.com Ginny H.

It is an awesome thing to do. Barb is in my area now hope we can do the same. I know I enjoyed meeting Beck Trench from the Bird art drawing program we did. We still keep in touch. she just finished a teaching tour in WA. She is back in NC now. When I visit my sister I will try for a meet again. Ginny H.

Hi Ginny, my birds at the feeders also have been on the low side. I guess there's a lot of natural food for them. Thank God, we don't have deer. They're in all the areas around us, though. I feel so sorry for them. My friend gave me a hibiscus in a pot that is doing well. I bring it in in the winter, and it bloomed beautifully. Put it out in the spring--it grew well, but still hasn't bloomed so far this year. It's getting plenty of water and sun, so don't know why. Maybe it will bloom in the fall. Will have to research it.
I see the black-capped and TT in the winter.
The weather has been very hot so must keep up the bird baths for them.
Will meet for coffee when knees are better. Need shots and keep putting it off.

Great to read that Calamity & HRM got to meet! After reading everyone's posts for a number of years, you feel like you already know them!
