Anyone seeing baby birds yet? I've had starlings fly in with their VERY loud babies, a couple of house sparrow babies and a couple of house finch babies. I thought I heard a downy baby but couldn't find it. I usually see cardinal and blue jay babies near the end of June.
For the first time ever I saw a young squirrel. I have had a squirrel invasion so maybe there's a lot of "kids" out there, lol.

Baby squirrels are adorable!!!
The only 'baby' birds I've seen so far are crows. There's a family that comes in to pick peanuts out from under the feeders. The only way you can tell they're 'babies' is the colored gape, the paler eye and the slightly shorter tail! Nothing else seems out of the nest, yet, so the crows must've gotten started really early!

Enjoyed your photos, never seen a baby squirrel before, he is precious.

I definitely have baby downeys out there somewhere. I'm pretty sure there are catbird babies out there too. Its the time of year where the food is swarmed so it makes it tough for the birds trying to bring babies near. The more birds I've attracted over the years the less babies I see, which is disappointing. The crow is definitely part of it. The whole yard goes into a tizzy when the crows show up. Even the starling takes the babies away.

Interesting! Our blue jays harass the crows when they're in the yard, but most of the other birds just ignore them. This is only the first year that we've had crows in the yard regularly, though--might see a different reaction once the babies are out of the nests...

The crows aren't around much now so bird world is happy out there. Update - bursting with young ones around the yard and feeder. Juvie blue jays and cardinals have the highest numbers but I have a handful of young downys, titmice, chickadees, catbirds, robins, sparrows and nuthatches too. I've seen 1 baby hairy and 1 baby red bellied. Unfortunately the red bellied parents don't seem to be bringing baby to the feeder every day like they have done in years past. I think losing their tree to a storm could be why; perhaps their nest is further away. They still come around to eat so maybe junior will be back with them again before the summer is out. I have lots of doves but by the time they arrive at the feeding area I have a hard time telling young from parent. Oh, I have had baby grackles and dreaded baby starlings but I try to block those out, lol. What babies are you seeing? Is baby season in full swing for everyone?

We're seeing about what you've seen, minus the starlings. I've also had hummingbirds, some baby bluebirds, one juvie brown thrasher and lots of brand-spankin' new downy woodpeckers...oh, and Eagle Junior (though he isn't exactly in the yard LOL). Haven't seen any hatch year warblers, yet, but have seen plenty of warbler parents carrying food. Same goes for the male Scarlet tanager. I've seen him quite a lot along the right-of-way--he was carrying food the past few weeks. I hope I get to see his family! It's been a good year!

I can't wait to see the baby photos!
Be glad you're spared baby starlings. The only times I get starlings coming to the feeders are when they have babies and when it snows. I think they're worse than having grackles around.

I hope I get some baby bird photos. Lately, though, I've had no time to get the camera out. June was too rainy to take the camera too many places, July has been too hot and cat-filled. LOL But if there are any baby bird photos from here, I'll be sure to share them!

Hi Guys, seams like a long summer. Not getting out much with this heat being so very bad. Went to the beach a week ago and walked along the water and ended up with a whicked headache. Don't ususally get headaches. Thought i was well hydrated with fruit and water during the day. But pint of water , pint of ice tea and advil . So that must have been the case. walking in waves takes a lot I guess. I said it was because i had my cell in my pocket. The scientist agured with me. I am sticking to that. It was so bad I thought i got hit with a bat. So I have been more careful. No weeding that is for sure. Never even got to mulch some gardens. Each weekend is a family party and work to be done. Thankfully last week was indoors it was 100. The family time has been nice. I even had Finn for 14 days, some in Ma. and some in NJ. He is still loving the birds. My hummingbird babies have increased and may be getting another batch. The Eagle nest had three eglets. they fledged last week. One of the area birders has just taken up birding, photography classes and has awesome equipment. (she is the one that won't say where she sees birds) her photo's make mine look like coloring books. lol Gonna go down load some photo's. I had a silly one on my cell phone after watching one of my bird houses and seeing some poking out. Half hour later a mouse crawled out. LOL Ginny H .

wren lunch is served. I have daliha plants in the window box and the big leaves are great cover for the nest. which really blends in with the straw frame of the box liner.
