Boy no one has used this thread in a while. Well we had storms last week with straight line of winds, we lost some trees i our yard. It sort of extended down to cap may .. They went out checking the Osprey nests and so many were damaged and babies killed, eggs lost. 66 odd losses. the week of memorial day the newly built nest down the street was causeing smoke . they rerouted the lines untill they could get the Osprey foundation to help move the nest. A new pellet base was build and it was moved, it contained two eggs. When we checked it that week he was flying and posting on the poll but after the week he was gone. I think I see them flying with the parents of last year. They are confusing me. The nest in the field seams to be fine. Hoping that next year the young will return to the great nest platform that was build. photo of the first nest thy built on the telephone pole. It was to close to the wires. Ginny H.

Was the smoking nest the one on the lights? O.O Whoa! Sorry about the casualties from the bad weather. I never thought about how exposed those nests are to weather! Amazing that they ever manage to fledge a brood when you think of it! Every storm we get during the nesting season worries us. Last year the hummers took a terrible hit from storms. This year, we've been getting lots of rain, but nothing too severe so far, and most of the birds seem to be getting along just fine. We're crossing our fingers and praying that that continues!
