Can anyone tell me what this bird is? It looks like a Starling to me, but then again, it doesn't. Attachment Deleted

I think it may be a juvenile red winged blackbird but not 100% positive. They look kind of like starlings at certain stages of growing IMO.

This is one of those birds that when you recognize it, you sort of roll your eyes and go, "Of course!" It's a hatch year robin--half-way between the short-tailed, spot-breasted juvie stage and the full-grown, spot-breasted but turning orange closer-to-adult hatch year immature robin. And it's a real cutie, too!

Downylover, when I read your post I said "Of course." I wondered if it was a female. The bird would not turn at all, so I couldn't see the front. I love the female RWB.
THEN I read Hazel's post and said the same thing. "Of course!" Because that's what I first thought it was when I saw it. A Robin. But the spotted back was a puzzle, so I thought Starling. I want to put it in Facebook. I think I'll tell them the bird is either a Robin or Red-winged Blackbird
Thank you Ladies.

Thank you, luv2, the female Red-wing is way up high among my favorites. Like to think she's visiting again.

Hazel's probably right. I just checked a juvie robin and juvie RWB photos that I had and the beak definitely looks robin. Sorry, I didn't have time to compare when I looked at your photo earlier.

Thank you so much, downylover. I was happy with both versions Just looked at my FB page and my nephew's wife put in a photo of a robin facing front, with a white and orange front. It looks to me like a juvenile, but face and wings also look exactly like my bird photo. It's so great to have the Forum and experts to consult as sometimes my books lack similar photos. Thanks tp you, Hazel and Luv2.

Robins tend to change a lot as they grow up. Someone needs to put out a bird guide for juveniles--with as many pics as they can get of the various stages! The ones that drive me craziest are the sparrows--all the juveniles look alike to me.
