We hit the jackpot yesterday with four species of our little friends moving down for the winter...they usually arrive around October 10 so we'd been looking for them.
We saw white crowns and white throats first, then chippies and juncos...we were so happy they arrived here! We get purples later, last year it was early Dec. when they came to spend winter with us.
We've had several drifts of rose-breasted grosbeaks for a few weeks but they are just stopping by on their way south for winter.

Haven't seen any yet, did have an Eastern Phoebe stop by.

I had a few white throated sparrows show up yesterday. I love them and I'm always happy when they arrive.
I didn't see my catbirds all day today and I went outside several times. They fly right down for their treats this time of year so not seeing them probably means they are on their way south. I knew they were getting ready. They always seem to take bath after bath before they go for the year.

Yay for sparrow season! I think I whiffed on Lincoln's sparrows this fall--haven't seen any, yet, and it's getting late. The Fox sparrows are probably on their way to you--they've been here about a week or so. Waiting for the tree sparrows to show up, now... Do the chipping sparrows just migrate through there, happybirder, or do they stick around for nesting season, too? We haven't seen any catbirds for a while now, more's the pity! We really enjoy watching them.

The chipping sparrows stay with us fall, winter and spring but it gets too hot for them in summer here so they go north where it is cooler. We don't get a lot of fox sparrows but they are hard to see so we may have more than we think we have.
