Just curious - anyone have a feeding station they are really fond of? Mine is shot and I am going to replace. It started to rust and they was hit but a tree in one storm and large branch in another. Its made it through a couple of hurricanes (including Sandy), blizzards, n'oreaters, etc. It held out for the winter so I'm happy. I will probably replace with the same thing because overall I've been really happy with my setup but I'm always open to ideas I have the Squirrel Stopper System. Its pricey but I don't need to spend a ton on squirrel proof feeders, etc. I have a dozen plus squirrels every day and in the 8 or so years I've had this not a single one has gotten up. Ditto for the raccoon I know is out there at night. I think I am going to get it in white this time for a change. If you have a setup that keeps the squirrels at bay and you're happy with please share. Thanks. Attachments:

That's an awesome station, downylover! We just scatter shepherd's hooks around the yard and put up the squirrel baffles. Our squirrels are clever, though--although the baffles work pretty well, there's always one smarty-pants or other that figures out how to get around them. I don't really begrudge them the seed, though--they also clean up under the feeders and that saves me a lot of raking! If you can find a metal slinky, and that pole comes apart above the cone-shaped baffle, you might try running the pole through the slinky and securing one end of the slinky to one of the cross arms. The squirrels try to use the slinky to get to the feeders, but it slinks down and they're thwarted. It's also entertaining for any humans who might be watching.

I had shepherds hooks with baffles years back and had next to no success at keeping the squirrels off. I was new at feeding then and didn't buy the best baffles so it was mostly me having no idea what to buy. I also had a feeder mounted on a wood pole and a squirrel managed to get IN THE FEEDER and got stuck (he was fine, I got the top off and he went running). This pole worked so great all these years. Nothing has gotten to the feeders. I just ordered the replacement. I'm getting black again because the white is back-ordered until late July/early August and I don't want to wait.

We have one we made and one we bought that both keep squirres away. anything with a baffle and is high enough will work, that if far enough away from trees that they can't jump to it. Wish it kept the grackles away too. Ginny H.

I hope to put it up this weekend. I'll take a pic when its up. They're getting a new feeder along with it (was an Xmas gift). Party time in the yard! I'm sure they will poop all over the feeders and pole within 10 minutes, lol.

I put it up yesterday. The birds were very vocal when the old pole was going down. Red bellied went tree to tree bellowing and drilling, to the gutters then to a small tree by the patio. He wanted to be certain I heard that he was mad, lol. I have zero mechanical ability and generally putting anything together has me pulling my hair out in frustration. This? After getting it out of the box and all the screws laid out it was up in 15-20 minutes. Attachments:

I ordered it from jet.com. The price is $149.99 direct and the same or higher everywhere else. Jet has 15% off your first 3 orders for new customers (& its free shipping)so I paid $128. Plow & Hearth had a 25% off sale (they were $159) but the shipping charge was so high that it cost more than buying it full price direct. Its worth every cent for me. I don't need to buy any additional baffles or spend $50+ on squirrel proof feeders. IMO you spend one way or another - either on a setup like this or on baffles/feeders.
Female red bellied finally landed but is now back to sitting on the top yelling. Male won't land. He's flies back and forth yelling, drills on the trees, etc. Yesterday he flew down to the patio. I threw a peanut and he grabbed it and left. He's boycotting!

So odd that the RBWOs are boycotting! It's the same as your old one, only black, isn't it? Do you think they're fashion snobs? They don't like the new decor...harumph! LOL Thanks for the link. I have to start working on hubby. Do you think the post is strong enough to withstand a bear attack? Our shepherd's hooks are fairly think metal and when a bear happens along and bends it to the ground, the whole thing gets bent. I'd like a feeder system that could either withstand the onslaught, or just uproot without getting twisted in the process... Our current shepherd's hooks are so crooked it makes me laugh--and drives hubby's OCD into high gear!
