LOL He does look quite demanding, and rather put out that he's not getting the special treatment he deserves!

I'm guessing his babies have fledged because I haven't seen him around. Every year they pretty much only come around for the peanut butter food while feeding the babies then I only see them here and there for a bath. Pfffft, they could have at least brought a baby by.

Any baby mockingbirds, yet? We're a little behind times here since the weather has been so wet and cool, but we're finally beginning to see some babies... I was thinking maybe he's just a little behind times.

Nope, not a single baby. Ungrateful, lol!! I went out of my way to have grapes, etc for them to feed the babies - you think they could have brought one by to say hello.
I spotted 4 downy babies this weekend. 3 being fed by parents and 1 spent and hour figuring out how to land on the suet. I may have gotten 1 decent photo, will check.
Tonight I spotted the first blue jay baby of the summer. Unfortunately the clouds burst right then and it was pouring so hopefully a better view tomorrow

It's been rainy here, too. Lots of wet woodpecker babies...and wet robin youngsters. Haven't seen any baby jays, yet, but I've heard them. Expecting the bluebirds out any day now!

hazelrunmama:"It's been rainy here, too. Lots of wet woodpecker babies...and wet robin youngsters. Haven't seen any baby jays, yet, but I've heard them. Expecting the bluebirds out any day now!" I now have about 12 baby jays. I am so entertained, they are such a joy to watch. Babies I've spotted so far: house finch, titmouse, downy, blue jay, cardinal, robin, grackle, starling, song sparrow, house sparrow, red winged blackbird and possibly an Oriole. I couldn't tell for sure if it was a female or a youngster. I usually never have them around more than a day or so in the early spring so either way I'll take it! No ducks in days. I'm sure they've moved to water full time. I've never had them this late into the summer. See you next year, ducks!

They're off making more ducks for your viewing pleasure next year! What considerate visitors! 12 baby jays! Wow! That must be a merry crew! We've seen woodpeckers, a couple chickadees, robins, tons of rose-breasted grosbeaks, bluebirds, and maybe some oriole and hummingbird babies. I've seen adult blue jays feeding youngsters, probably, but they're being shy this year and all the activity is in the shrubberies. Truth be told, though, I haven't spent a lot of time out watching. Maybe I'll put up the blind this week and see what comes around.

I have baby blue jays everywhere. I can't tell for sure how many I have because they are in and out. I hear them all around and counted 16 yesterday. I'm still waiting for a baby red-bellied but not sure I will get to see one. They lost their tree a few years back and while the adults eat here daily the babies are hit or miss. Other than the jays I think I see less babies then I used to see. I think as my feeders became more active the number of babies that come around has gone down. Makes sense I guess - take the food & feed them in less chaos.
I couldn't sleep last night so I was up just as the sun came up. I looked outside to see if anyone was out that early and I got quite a surprise. There was Mr. Duck standing where the pool was (I took it down a week or so ago) & Mrs. Duck standing in the ground birdbath. I still had food so they had breakfast then took off. Pool lady will be putting their spa back today! I can't believe they are still around.

hazelrunmama: "Ha! Pool Lady! LOL Did they come back again?" No, I haven't seen them. I've been maintaining their pool hoping the drop by. They were probably like 'pffft, amenities here stink this time of year". I'm giving it another week & if I don't see them its going away til the spring. Its kind of a pain to dump and scrub and if not in use its going. I counted 22 jays at one time. I have babies darting all over the yard. I feel kind of bad because there's no way I can put out the amount of peanuts/food they are looking for. They hop all over the patio crying and wing flapping and I feel so bad. Go forage little ones! I have (I think) 6-8 catbirds. I adore these little birds. They are so friendly and sweet. They just want their catbird food. I open the container when I'm filling the feeders and they help themselves to a bite. Lastly - I finally have a red-bellied baby!!! I can't tell if its a boy or girl yet. Poor baby is having a hard time landing on the feeder. Last night was the best. He/she made at least 6 attempts then landed/bounced off the patio umbrella then down to the patio where they grabbed a peanut. Me & the baby blue jays are so happy that the $8 pump I bought last year for the fountain has been going strong all season. Fountains are either $400+ or they just don't have the same kind of little bowl that all the birds love. Its the VIP spot in the yard hands down. It may be worn but I'm not throwing it out until its dead. I am thinking of trying to spray paint around the outside with some of that stone look paint (not in the bowls where the birds/water sit). Maybe I can make it not look so ugly for next year. I miss everyone posting here, especially this time of year. I love seeing all the baby birds from all over the place. Here's a catbird and the young red bellied: Attachments:

PS: I'll see about moving the smilieys. I guess that is what is causing that photobucket message. They want $399 a year to host files that get used on boards, etc. Nope!

Thanks lb2! The yard is bursting with baby birds, its been lovely.
Mrs. Duck showed up today. Her pool was filled. While she was eating I tried to get it filled. Then someone lit off some fire crackers (4th is over people!) and she took off. I was so bummed.
Have you been seeing lots of babies?
