A young Common yellowthroat: Black-capped chickadee--I know it's an adult because it's banded and we didn't do any banding this year: An American robin youngster hunting for dogwood berries:

A Northern waterthrush--nice to see one for a change, since I usually just hear them singing from the wetland during migration: I couldn't resist adding one last Ruby-throated hummingbird--this was taken on the last day of the month and you can see by its huge belly that it's about to migrate! And, finally, some of our local Wild turkeys coming in to the stump feeder:

Hazel, so enjoyed seeing all these photos. Some of these birds I've never seen. The RB Grosbeaks visit every May, though. Also, I'd flip with joy if I saw a Turkey or two in my backyard. Since Sandy a few years back, and the loss of some trees, we've been inundated with House Sparrows. Before that it was rare to see them.

House sparrows are rare here right now--we're too wooded. I say "right now" because you never know what might happen in future--like a Sandy or a forest fire or any big catastrophe... O.O But right now, HOSP are rare here.
Are you getting any kind of recovery from Sandy, yet, BarbK? Are some of your more traditional birds moving back in?

Hazel, I don't think any of my feeder birds ever left the area due to Sandy. I still get the same old regulars like the Blue Jays and Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal. I've seen very few Grackles--used to get a lot of them. I never get too much of a variety, except in the winter, I'll get more species. I should put out the suet, so I'll see the Woodpeckers. I'm getting lazy, I guess. I must visit the Forum more often, too.

You didn't lose any woodpeckers after Sandy knocked down the trees? That's awesome! We wind down to winter this time of year. Fewer and fewer species, until we're set with our 10 - 20 spp of winter residents and visitors. Last winter was the first in 5 years where we didn't have a big influx of winter finches. I sort of missed seeing them--and I'm sure the cat would have loved to watch them, since they would have been visible in his window--but I think we saved about $1000 on our seed bill last year because of their absence! So I guess I can't really complain.

My flickers left after Sandy knocked down their tree. I'd hear them but they never came back to the yard until last year. A young one appeared by the bird bath and I now have a pair out there. I still don't see them often but I hear them all the time. I'm pretty sure I have a pair that lives in the neighbor's yard.
I've been busy so been slacking a bit on keeping a close eye on the birds. I have seen some little warblers float through for a day here and there. Most of the blue jay young have left and I think the catbirds are gone for the year. Grackles started showing up in giant waves this week. I feel like I am a truck stop on the path out of town, lol. I wish they'd find a new route.
My niece is expecting a baby girl on Thanksgiving & I helped plan her shower. Been fun but there's 4 sets of family (both she & her husband have divorced parents) so shower was huge. Lots of love for baby to be! I can't wait to meet the little one!
Happy fall everyone! I'm hoping the fall weather actually arrives (today finally feels like a fall day) and sticks around.

Enjoyed your photos, especially the towhees. Been very busy, maintaining a house, automobile, ect. all alone, not much time to spend on the internet.

That must be you I was remembering about the woodpeckers leaving after Sandy, then! At the best of times, I have half a memory...just staying in practice... LOL I think our catbirds left, too--haven't seen one for a few days. We had one little tyke that had taken up with the robins. It was sort of mysterious--he followed the robins around, copying what they were doing. He strutted around the yard like a robin and when he stopped, he stood up and threw out his chest like a robin does. The robins kept half-heartedly chasing him off, but he'd always come back. I wonder if he left with some of the robins or if he finally decided to stick with the catbirds. We'll probably never know just exactly why he had that love affair with robins, but I wish him luck! It'll be interesting if he shows up again next year in the company of robins! The towhees are still around, and we had a Harris's sparrow a few days ago. I even got a picture of it, but I'm mired in December 2016 pics still, and it'll be a while before I get around to editing the Harris's sparrow. Sure was nice to see it, though! It's only the second year we've ever seen any here. Congratulations on the impending grand-niece! Exciting times!

Okay, now that's weird. Neither you nor I have any photobucket images in our posts, but that weird message still showed up. *shrug* Is that something to do with the quote function on the board?

We had some well work done and we're trying to get the front yard put back together after the trenching. Oy. We're getting too old for hard labor! LOL Glad you enjoyed the pix!
