Thought I'd start my thread for the flowers and plants we have here in the high desert. We should have a nice showing of spring flowers with all the rain/sleet/snow we've had in January. I always smile when I see snow on our cactus! I took the first picture a week or so ago of our Agave's gathering moisture for the spring! The second one is of today after our snowfall yesterday. There were drifts of 1 to 2 feet in places but we really just had 2-3 inches. Most is melted now.

Love the scenery, Lue, with the snow.

Thanks L2B! I'm glad I took the picture this morning - it's gone now.

Thanks HRM - I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I think they should be very pretty this year.

Very pretty! Even snow would be welcome here! It's pretty drab in NE Alabama right now; everything's brown and we've had more dreary days than sunny ones.

Thanks Marilyn. I sure get tired of the cloudy days too. I'm glad we don't have many compared to others. My sister in central MN has little to no snow and too much brown too. It's brown here, of course, but that's 'normal'. I do tire of it, sometimes, so I know what you mean.

I don't mind the brown so much when the sun's out Lue!

I don't mind the brown so much when the sun's out Lue! Maybe that is because you have the bright greens a good part of the year - versus here. Here it is really only July - September (if there are rains).

Here's the first of the year! And today on our walk Duke and I spotted a Spanish Dagger starting to do it's bloom. I've read that you can find a Dagger blooming somewhere in the Trans Pecos every month of the year. This is the earliest for us - it will get frozen and it's beautiful stalk will succumb but it is neat until then. The first is the weed that is taking over everywhere!! I have some serious digging to do soon!!! Have no idea what it is - it has a long root, looks similar to a parsnip! The second is a Prairie Verbena. They are tiny flower heads but it is February - maybe they are being cautious. And the third is, I think, I Texas Selena. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Those lavender and yellow flowers are beautiful, Lue.

Pretty flowers. We are beginning to see daffodil green parts sticking through the ground, but it may be a while before we actually have flowers of any kind here. We have another cold spell on the way after a w/e of 60* temps which was sooo nice!

It's been crazy (weather wise) here. First all the rain in January, 2.3" vs. average of .45" and now the warmth of February. We've been in the low 70s for a week!

Beautiful blooms, Lue! Even the weed is pretty--very interesting structure! So has Spring officially sprung there?

So has Spring officially sprung there? No, not really. There will be freezes (usually) through mid-March. Who knows this year... I'm "waking up" the asparagus bed tomorrow. yummmmm
