17species is pretty cool, even though there are two you'd rather not have around. Scads of color with the cardinals, jays, finches, etc. Very nice l2b!!

Oh, nice, l2b! I'm over the moon if I hit 14 or 15 species in a day! 14, 15 is very good, I'll be happy to send you some cowbirds, house sparrows and starlings to increase your species list. I pine to have just one Purple Finch visit me.

I love your photo of the cardinals, I am happy to say my cardinal numbers are rising. I have to down load the photo's. They are never in a bunch like yours. I sort of see some rivalry when the new ones showed up. I had ordered some seed that has chopped strawberries which i am allergic to. My daughter put it out on the tray for me. I also put out sprays of millet. I love them s much. No cowbirds here. Ginny H.

Thanks, Ginny, they sure can brighten up a dreary winter day. So happy your Cardinals are rising, looking forward to your counts and photos. They do chase one another, sometimes they even HISS at each other; once I saw a Cardinal hiss at a Chickadee.
I did not know you were down on the Cowbird count, I'll have to send you some, lol.
Take Care and Happy New Year, luv2bird

Wow! You've been warm! I still can't get over your House finch and Cardinal numbers! And 18 spp--can't complain about that! Nice count, l2b. I'll bet you're grateful that the starling and cowbird numbers have dropped.

I'll bet you're grateful that the starling and cowbird numbers have dropped. Thanks, HRM, today, Tuesday, is a weather change, temp. 20*F. with 3 inches of snow on the ground, (first accumulating snow this Winter), and more birds than I've seen all winter. About the Starlings, they're increasing in number to about 20 and they are overpowering the little birds.
My new feeders are to arrive today, they are the round, upside-down, log type, suet feeders that are suppose to be Starling proof, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck with those! I know others have tried them with good success! We've been below zero for a couple of days now and will be again at least through tomorrow. The feeders are really getting hit hard! The shrike popped in for a quick panic, too, but I don't think it got anything!

Thanks, Hazel, let you know if they work keeping starlings at bay.
Your weather is heading our way on Thursday we are suppose to have a low of 2*F with wind chills down to -20 below 0.
My feeders are getting hit hard too and the bird population is growing.
Take Care & Keep Warm, l2b
