Oh, wow! A Hooded warbler! And in the winter! Just, wow! I've seen one since moving here and it was waaaayyy out of range! (I think it was during the time when Hurricane Isaac was slamming into the Gulf coast.)

Hazel, sorry if I misled about the timing of the hooded warbler, which I saw on 5/2/13 and not during winter. I don't have a pic of the redstart so I don't know when it was here. Going through my albums on Picasa, I also found some other birds I've seen here just once or just one or two seasons: golden-crowned kinglet (once), field sparrow, fox sparrow, cedar waxwing flock.

Luv, I'm surprised to see so many "city birds" - house sparrows and starlings there! Congrats on the hairy WP!! A shite-crowned sparrow would be a lifer for me. Nice count variety.

Thanks, Marilyn, I was so surprised to see her too. Yes, we have HOSP and Starlings but my main problem is all the B-H Cowbirds, they are increasing, today, Monday, there was at least 200 in my yard.

P.S. Hold on to hope, White-Crowns may come your way.

Ack, that's a lot of cowbirds, l2b! I hope they move on quickly. Otherwise, though, that's a very nice count! You're getting some good diversity! Yeah, I guess I read more into that than there was about the Hooded warbler. But I'd settle for one in May, too! LOL

Yikes! That's a boat load of Cowbirds. When they and the Blackbirds arrive here they leave after a few days if I don't ground feed. I don't have any platform feeders so there is less they can get.

A Big Thanks for the tip, Lue, I did not put out any mixed bird food on the ground, yet today, now I'm not going to.
I will hold off a couple of days to make sure the cowbirds are gone, although, I feel bad for my regular songbirds but they will benefit in the Spring.

I had 17 robins on Saturday! (and it was a count day). I saw 2 out there pecking around so I threw out red grapes that I had but the water seemed the bigger draw. It was dusk so I'm not sure I got any usable picture but it was great to see so many at once. It happens a day or so in the winter but usually on really cold days when there's snow on the ground.
The cardinals gladly gobbled up the remainder of the grapes.
