I like your 'assortment' of birds, such a nice blend of colors and sizes! I am always envious of those that have my old favorites like the Chickadees and Nuthatches. The similarities between our birds are the House Finch, Pine Siskin and Chipping Sparrow.

Lue, your brown colored birds blend in with the desert environment quite well.

ergggg....holy catz, look at the cowbirds! Still a lot of native sparrows, though. We only get the juncos this time of year, so I'm getting hungry for the sight of some white-throated or white-crowned or, yes, even a field or song sparrow! Nice count, give or take a few blackbirds, l2b.

OMG do you always get that many cowbirds this time of year? And here I am getting mad that 10 starlings showed up with the snow. Maybe if you don't put any food on the ground and take down platform feeders some will depart?

Thanks, Hazel, as for the cowbirds , I'm trying to do things to discourage them, I have had some success.

No, this is the first year I've had that many; it all started out when thousands of cowbirds came through, (had as high as 300 in my yard), have video of that event. They were eating everything up, I had to lay off feeding, all together, for a few days; my cowbird count has now diminished to about 25 birds, I'm hoping it dwindles farther. I've drastically cut down on the bird food. I'm hoping this week's count will be better.

Lue, your brown colored birds blend in with the desert environment quite well. That certainly is true Marilyn. And most are faithful year round visitors.

Wowser! Do you always have that many warblers show up in your yard in winter, Marilyn, or is it getting really close to spring? All those sparrows and a kinglet, too! Reminds me of April... I've heard a rumor that "...Spring, She is a'comin'..."!

Great variety! I'm jealous of everyone's goldfinches. I get one here and there and that's it. The only year I had a lot was the year I had dozens of siskins.

I only have warblers here in the winter. When spring comes they all disappear. Same for the kinglet, purple finches, and all sparrows except the chipping. Goldfinches are all year but in lesser numbers in the summer. House finches and cardinals breed here and we have bunches of them in the summer. I'm amazed at how many birds are devouring the dried mealworms. I got them to attract bluebirds but they're being eaten by juncos, Carolina wrens, pine warblers, butterbutt, kinglet, and probably a few others as well! Good counting for those of you who do this on weekends!
