I haven't seen the pair of Mockingbirds for weeks; but today, at least one has returned and claimed the grape jelly dish as HIS/HERS! Anyone trying to get some jelly is chased off.

Yep, pretty feisty but the Cactus Wrens and Curve-billed Thrashers do unseat the king.

I wish I saw them more often. My sister has a pair that has made a nest in her front shrubs a few times. My sister felt bad for mama and put out meal worms to make it easier to feed the babies. Well, 3 years later Mrs. Mockingbird is still coming to the porch for worms. All year. I had some pictures I took a couple of years ago that I'll have to see if I can find (my external hard drive died so not sure if any are saved).
Edited: found them and the baby in the shrub.

That baby is adorable!!!
So Mockingbirds don't migrate? No wonder we never see them here--they know better than to try to brave our winters...

I think they are around all year here. When they nest in her front shrub the mama flies and squawks at the mailman and anyone going to the door (the shrub is close by). My sister can walk right up to it and they don't make a peep. They know who is helping them out. They leave the nest really fast and my sister is like a babysitter.

I love Mockingbirds but rarely see any around my house. But fortunately, two days ago there was one. I quickly put out jelly on bread in one of the feeders, but didn't see the bird go near it. And he was there again yesterday. Will be putting out jelly from now on. Just love those birds.

Until this thread I don't think I knew that mockingbirds liked grape jelly!

It seems that "everybody" here in the high desert loves jelly!
